The Long Winter takes place 150 years after the Megaspells devastated the world. It mostly stays in the area around Dodge City and Baltimare.

It is currently 150 years after the Megaspells hit Equestria and the world was reduced to nothing more than a shadow of it's former self. Storm Rider, a simple Bounty Hunter from the Baltimare area, is just trying to live her life and get by on contracts she takes. All that changes when she meets a mysterious Unicorn named Predious and finds herself in way over her head.

Main Characters

  • Storm Rider is the stories protagonist. She is a small-time bounty hunter from the Baltimare region just trying to get by on any contracts she can get her hooves on. While she isn't short on acquaintances, she really doesn't have any actual friends. Normally this would sadden somepony, but Storm rather likes being alone as she works more efficiantly like that. In Chapter Seven, it is revealed that Storm is actually Project HARMONY, a prewar genetics experiment designed to see if combining the DNA of all six bearers of the elements would result in a single pony who could wield all the elements at once.
  • Predious is a unicorn with an unknown background. The only things known about him are his skills with illusion magic, his smart-ass attitude, and his love of fedoras.
  • PAI is an Artificial Intelligence with a bit of a bipolar problem. She is first encountered in Chapter Five after sending her robotic Minotaur after Storm and Predious. Despite Storm's harsh attitude towards her, PAI still thinks of them as sisters considering they were both made in the same facility and had the same "dad".
  • Iron Will is a robotic Minotaur designed and named after that famous prewar Self-Help Guru. While he is a big hunk of century-and-a-half old metal, he is still very resilient and can tear through a bulkhead as if it were made of tissue paper.

Told from the perspective of Storm Rider in past-tense.
