Project Starfall was one of the O.I.A.'s secret projects, led by Trottenheimer, original inventor of the Megaspell. Project Starfall's goal was the weaponization of megaspells for the war, which eventually passed on to the responsibility of the Ministry of Arcane Sciences. Very little direct information exists on the project.
The main developments included the first Balefire Bomb and a mostly non-magical weapon called Trottenheimer's Folly with its unique Silver Bullet ammunition.
The ammunition for Folly is extremely rare, and each round discovered (with the exception of a dissected round encountered alongside the Wall Choir) has been in a special case that will open only to members of a few specific genetic lines.
Trottenheimer experimented extensively with Starmetal found beneath Hoofington and used it in the project.
It is implied that the Ministry of Awesome was heavily involved in or potentially even the original creator of Project Starfall, as multiple mentions of said ministry can be found in relation to the project:
- Blackjack found a Silver Bullet on the corpse of an M.o.A agent with an attached note asking if it was the result of "whatever Trottenheimer was doing for Rainbow Dash" implying that Dash was personally involved in the project.
- In the back of a M.o.A book on sabotage and explosives titled Duck and Cover: an Equestrian Patriot’s Guide to Survival owned by Rivets' wartime ancestor (who worked for the M.o.A) is a photo of the first Balefire Bomb detonation with the comment "Trottenheimer’s megaspell goes boom. We’re out of a job."
- Additionally, a Star Blaster very closely owned and monitored by the M.o.A was also involved in the development of Trottenheimer's Folly. Goldenblood had unsuccessfully tried to have the M.o.A simply give the weapon to him.
